The roots

The roots of ComTür stretch back to the start of the 20 th century. The company was founded in 1919 by Martin Schütz, father-in-law of the current senior partner Hans Weimann, as a carpenter and joiner and cabinet maker’s. Apart from traditional furniture making, architectural joinery was one of the areas the company focused on in the post-war years. The first steps towards becoming a “door specialist” were made from around the 1950s onwards, when Hans Weimann took over the business as the second generation.

The “arch period"

Hans Weimann gradually moved away from traditional interior fittings, as he discovered what was until then a completely new market niche, arch production, and introduced this into his company. He increasingly specialized in the production of arch elements in the form of round, segmental and three-centered arches. The designs ranged from pure door frames as paneling for open doorways through to complete door elements. The company was one of the leaders in this area and still is to this day. Many of the larger door manufacturers make use of the company’s specialist expertise and in some cases are still buying all kinds of “Weimann” arch elements today.

Craft with style

The company consistently expanded its product range and in addition to pure arch elements and smooth interior doors increasingly produced stylish doors handcrafted to the highest quality. The range of products was rounded off with suitable house doors. The fitting name “Weimann door & form” which characterized the traditional range of doors and arches was devised to convey the company’s claim to high quality to the outside world as well.

The Change

The takeover of the business by the two sons Wolfgang and Gerhard Weimann took the company into the third generation with a flourish and a host of new ideas. The existing traditionally oriented range was expanded with a delicate feel for customer requirements. By the middle/end of the 1980s there was a completely new product line. Simpler, more modern, fresh and young. In terms of outward appearance, this was demonstrated by a second logo and the appropriate “ComTür” brand name.

New site

The ComTür model range was gradually expanded and quickly and flexibly adapted to current requirements in the market. The previous premises were no longer large enough to accommodate the production facilities required for the higher production volume, so at the beginning of the 1990s a new production hall was built on the Böllinger Höfe industrial estate. The advantage of the new site was firstly its proximity to the original site in Heilbronn-Biberach and its ideal link to the freeway and the possibility of accommodating further expansion. A new administration wing was also built when the production hall was expanded and the large door gallery was created for visitors.

Creativity and expertise

For nearly 20 years now the “ComTür” line has epitomized the development of an increasing number of new door models and series. Creativity and comfortable design are just as important as engineering, expertise and traditional craftsmanship. These components are ingeniously combined to form an adept unit. Qualified experts from all areas form a committed team and guarantee the uniqueness of ComTür.

Looking to the future

We are bound by our “history”. ComTür will therefore continue to be in future what it always was – an innovative, flexible and reliable partner for all issues involved in finding the “door for life”.
